BEE

NeT story...

Social Responsibility has been a neglected part of the scorecards since BEE scorecards have been introduced. The market indicates that persons generally know what to do in terms of the scorecard optimisation but when it comes to social responsibility, very few business owners know what to do and who to forward money to.

For this reason, the National Empowerment Trust was established in 2006, in conjunction with like-minded corporate bodies, a trust aimed at assisting scorecard holders and interested parties alike with their BEE spending on Social and Enterprise development. The main objective of NET is to alleviate poverty, create jobs, combat crime and develop communities with the help of the funds from mainly scorecard holders, who are motivated to contribute to the cause and in the process obtain the scorecard contribution points needed

The National Empowerment Trust (NeT) is a non-governmental, Charitable Trust (no: IT7980/06) that focuses on sustainable Socio Economic- and Enterprise Development. NeT is registered as a Public Benefit Organization (PBO). NeT registration under Section 18A of the Income Tax Act enables donations to be exempted from donations tax, exemption reference no: 93/0023357

NeT vision...

The vision of the Trust is to create a link between the business and the social sector to empower them to play an active role in the transformation of communities through the funding and implementation of socio-economic development programmes.

NeT mission...

The mission of the Trust is to manage and allocate funding received from the business sector and other donors to organisations involved in impact-driven socio-economic development programmes and projects.

South Africa, like the rest of the world, is faced by the harsh reality of poverty, diseases and unemployment. What could be done to reach out to people and communities to contribute towards transformation and development?

The BEE scorecard of a company is compiled according to seven codes including socio-economic development. E.g. it is expected of businesses to contribute 1% of their net profit after tax towards socio-economic development programmes or projects to score points

However, many companies do not have the human resources, time or expertise to implement and manage socio-economic development programmes or projects.

The National Empowerment Trust offers a comprehensive service to assist businesses to become involved in impact-driven programmes or projects that will contribute towards the transformation of communities.

We have extensive experience in the design, planning, implementation and management of community-directed programmes or projects, skills development and enterprise development funded by the private sector and national and international Foundations.
